MURAL: Leukemia Research Foundation

MURAL: Leukemia Research Foundation

Our current mural, on display from 1/13/23 to 2/20/23, features The Leukemia Research Foundation. The mural offers an opportunity to increase public awareness and mobilize the community to share their vision of a world without leukemia. Leukemia can touch anyone at any time, regardless of race, gender, age, or ethnicity. The artwork illustrates a connection – between patients, doctors, caregivers, researchers, and supporters – who come together to overcome a complex disease with dozens of subtypes.

The Leukemia Research Foundation is the nation’s largest nonprofit focused exclusively on funding leukemia research. Since its founding here in Chicago in 1946, more than $83 million has been raised to support its mission. It has funded 600+ research projects worldwide while disbursing another $5 million in need-based financial assistance, and their patient educational programs have attracted nearly 7,000 participants in the last ten years alone.

Leukemia does not discriminate. It can touch anyone at any time, regardless of gender, race, age, or ethnicity. Nearly 500,000 people are living with a leukemia diagnosis in the United States, and more than 60,000 are newly diagnosed nationwide annually. Unfortunately, 24,000 die each year, which makes growing awareness so critical.

Wintrust has enjoyed a longstanding relationship with the foundation. In addition to a solid banking relationship, we’ve been honored to sponsor various events, including their well-known ABC7 Gibbons 5K Run & 3K Walk. We’ve also had the opportunity to support their affiliate board and other vital efforts, and we’re proud to have several Wintrust team members who regularly donate individually.

When donating to the Leukemia Research Foundation, you can feel confident that your money will be used to make the most significant impact possible. The Foundation has consistently earned the coveted 4-Star rating from Charity Navigator, the nation's most respected charity evaluator. One of the lessons we all learned through the pandemic is the importance of funding medical research. Scientists have made remarkable progress in understanding leukemia in pursuit of a cure. Increased awareness and your support will enhance critical health and health care initiatives that will help fund tomorrow’s cures.
